Is it a game or a physics lesson, or both of them?

Mechanismo is developed by young Ukrainian company Wireless Sharks which has developed 4 another games for the time being (European Football 2007, Genetica, BigFoot Challenge and Christmas Mystery). The most successful game of them was Genetica. Mechanismo is puzzle game and belongs also to the category of logical games. It is not a logical express like Zuma and Luxor, it is nor clone of classical logical games like Tetris or Arkanoid. It is completely different type of logical game.

The main characteristic of Mechanismo is that you have no time limit in this game. You are not limited by time; you do not have to react quickly. You have as much time as you need. The game is based on the physics knowledge. But don’t worry; you don’t have to be a professor in physics in order to play the game. You will use the basic knowledge of physics (for example gravitation). And what is the main principle of the game? You will solve separate puzzles. In each puzzle is defined the goal of the puzzle (light the fire, light the lamps, boil the water in the kettle, turn of the bell, etc.). There are various gadgets on the screen which work as one chain mechanism, but some of them are missing and the chain. Your task is to fill in the right gadgets on the right place. The chain mechanism has to work correctly and the puzzle goal has to be accomplished. Then you can advance to another level with new puzzle.

The first step of each player should be the help option, called Mechanipedia. Here you will learn the main principles of the game, controls and you can find here also the detailed information about all the accessible gadgets in the game. There are 40 different gadgets in the game (for example: various balls, balloon, various boards, trampoline, conveyor, engine, gear, pusher, rotator, belt, rope, scissors, lamp, candle, rocker, kettle, etc.). It is important to know basic characteristics of each gadget and its way of use.

There are many levels (level = puzzle) in the game. But only if you finish the previous level you will unlock next level. At the beginning of the game you will begin with tutorial levels. There are 12 tutorial levels in the game. This levels are very important because you will learn the basics of the game here, how to combine and connect the gadgets. The goals of the tutorial puzzles are described in detail and there is no problem to solve them. The real challenge begins in the easy puzzles. There are 19 easy puzzles. The goal of the game is described briefly and you have to use your knowledge from previous puzzles, but it is still not big problem to solve them. The medium puzzles are harder, the goals are more difficult, and you have to use more gadgets. The only way to solve some of them is try various combinations. You will unlock new game option after finishing of all the medium puzzles. It is called workshop and you can create your own puzzles here. It is very interesting option. You will make a mechanism which works, then you take away some of the gadgets and will ask your friend to solve it. The last group of puzzles is called “hard puzzles”. They are really hard. I have finished only 2 of them yet. It took me a long time to solve them. The game should have more that 50 puzzles; there are 46 puzzles without hard puzzles. I estimate that the game has approximately 60 levels, so the number of hard levels should be circa 14.

The game graphics is nice but not very complicated. There are 12 different backgrounds, 40 different gadgets and the small pictures of your 2 robot friends which will appear at the beginning of each level and will give you hints. It is a pleasure to watch the gadgets in action. However, the graphics is not the most important feature of this game.

Sounds of the game help to stir up the atmosphere of the puzzle game. I enjoyed the melody in the game menu; it encouraged me when I was angry because I couldn’t solve the puzzle. The sounds in the game are good, but they are not very important. The developers could add bigger variety of the sounds of various gadgets. The vibrations in the game are more important in this game according to me. If something doesn’t works properly, you will feel it through the vibration.

I have played many logical games in the past, but never this kind of game. This game is appropriate for the gamers who like to think in the games. You don’t have to be physics specialist to enjoy the game. Many people say that games in general are only about killing and the violence and that the games have no importance for the education and development of young people. This game confutes this assertion. Mechanismo is the game which will help young people to understand basics of the physics. Also the older gamers will revise their basic physics knowledge. I think that playing of this game has its purpose and that this game will give you more than the fun. I think that on the market should be more games of this genre. The motivation of playing of this game is incredible. I played one level for 10 minutes and I couldn’t complete the task. I tried to combine the gadgets, I tried to think harder. Finally I solved the puzzle and I screamed loudly because I was lucky and enjoyed solving the puzzle. I immediately showed it to my wife because I wanted to show my adroitness to her. Only the good game could evoke these feelings. The pleasure from the gameplay is the main characteristic of good game. And Mechanismo is very good game. The motivation of the game is very high. When you finish one puzzle, you want to start the new puzzle immediately and prove yourself that you can do it. The controls of the game are simple; there is no problem to work with various gadgets on the screen at once.

I recommend Mechanismo to all players. After playing of many action games, RPG, strategy, Shoot’em Up and Beat’em Up games, you should try also this type of game. Prove that you can also beat the basic physics puzzles. This game is the best logical game within last year for me. It is a long lasting game and you can play it even if you have only couple of minutes for playing. Your progress in the game will be saved. You will realize that physics could be fun after playing of this game.
